Whole life coaching with Amanda Brook Chen

Working together

“I found my values and vision exercise I did with you before leaving my job and it’s inspired me to have a think about where I am, and what’s happening for me now.

The exercise then seemed mainly about work environments for me, but when I look at it now, I see it was about all my environments - and it is as true now as it was then. This work has sort of shaped my life, giving me the confidence not only to identify a job and set up that I enjoy, but to actually ensure that I ask for, and somehow find, all the things I thought I was going to get within the job. I’m now also asking for things which will support me in other areas of my life as the vision and values work gave me the confidence to say 'I need and want this'.

For me that is a radical change as although I am quite a go-getter person, in the past I have stopped short at fulfilling my needs, as it seemed too selfish. Now I see that those needs are surfacing to enable me to live to my full potential. I’m pushing ahead into a new zone now and not sure what it will bring, and who will be in it with me – I feel great change starting to happen and I see that all the changes I have embraced positively are to some extent as a result of those exercises and your coaching and clear thinking.”

“Well, I’m back from India , and I’m looking through my coaching folder, which I still keep.

I wanted to work with you because I was at a crossroads. I had no idea what the problem was, I just knew I had no idea what to do. I had three children at university, and I realised that they were all beginning to take off in life, which meant I could start looking at what I wanted for myself. With your help I finally realised that I could list a number of things I wanted to achieve… I wanted to work for myself on a part-time basis, I wanted to acquire a small place beside the sea, and I wanted to travel again.

Gradually you helped me gain the confidence to quit paid employment and launch myself as a freelance trainer in mentoring and parent education, buy a tiny flat in Norfolk, and finally – I made that long trip to India”
