Authentic French - especially Breton - farmhouse cuisine prepared on the premises using many locally sourced and often organic ingredients, and with nothing artificial. Vegetables are from the nearby Public Market and Newfields Organics; meat (including pure-pork sausages made to a Breton recipe exclusively for Le Chat Noir) is from Jennings, also in the Public Market; buckwheat flour for the Breton pancakes comes from Brittany and the plain flour is from Yorkshire Organic Millers. For more information about their suppliers, including French wine producers, visit Le Chat Noir's website.
During the day, the cafe serves baguettes, salads, soups, sweet and savoury crepes. In the evening, traditional French dishes and Breton crepes are offered. The proprietors also offer food workshops and wine tastings on the premises.
Le Chat Noir also has an off-licence facility, offering an expertly chosen range of French wines, beers from Yorkshire, Begium and France and ciders from Yorkshire and Normandy.
